About Me

Hey guys, this is my blog to keep you all updated with my trips to KZN, South Africa. The entries here capture the highs and lows I have experienced working in an area which is rife with poverty, but yet has so much love and hope to offer.

We made it!!!!

Well we're here after what felt like days of travelling! Things didn't exactly get off to the best start at Newcastle airport where a rather rude check in lady wouldn't take my bag unless it was exactly 20kg or less- I only had 22.5kg! She then weighed my hand luggage which of course again was well over the 7kg you're allowed. So 2 cut a long story short I had 2 shed kilos of weight by leaving behind toiletries, books and some clothes. The annoying thing was that the flight to Dubai was literally less than half full- so any extra weight wouldn't have been a problem! Anyhoo, the flight to Dubai was fine. We touched down at midnight local time and were told that it was 31 degrees outside! The airport was nice and modern- well let's face it Dubai isn't as old even as me so it had to be up to date surely! We waited til half 5 in the morning for our next flight to Johannesburg which is where we are now, staying with Robbie's Aunt and Uncly for 2 weeks before we fly down 2 Durban. Going to Robbie's Aunts river house at 6am tomorrow morning so with that I'll dash off and get some sleep as I've been awake for about 30 hours or so now!
Oh and guess what was the first thing I bought in South Africa............ chewing gum- how classy!
